Jablon, James M. (National Children's Cardiac Hospital, Miami, Fla.), Betty Brust, and Milton S. Saslaw. beta-Hemolytic streptococci with group A and type II carbohydrate antigens. J. Bacteriol. 89:529-534. 1965.-Ten strains of beta-hemolytic streptococci with unusual somatic antigens were isolated from excised tonsils or throat cultures or both. Acid extracts of these strains reacted with commercial group A and group F antisera, but gave no reaction when tested with 35 type-specific group A antisera. Serum cross-absorption and agar-gel diffusion studies established the identity of the reactive antigens as the specific carbohydrates of group A and of type II. The latter antigen has been found in many strains of group F streptococci. The organisms do not possess the group-specific carbohydrate of group F, and the reaction with the commercial group F antiserum is due to the presence of type II antibody in the antiserum. The organisms give a stronger reaction to fluorescein-conjugated type II antiserum than to group A. However, the organisms have only one group-specific carbohydrate, that of group A, and, tentatively, should be classified as such.

The role of b-hemolytic streptococci group B and anearobic infections in preterm premature rupture of membrane

preterm premature rupture of membrane(PPROM)is one of the serious problems during pregnancy.the aim of this study was to determine the probable relation between group B streptococal and anaerobic infections and PPROM.for this porpust 100 pregnant women with preterm rupture of membrane were selected.in the case group the prevalence of B-hemolytic streptococcal and anaerobic microorganisms was de...

Immunochemical Studies on the Group and Type Antigens of Group F Streptococci and the Identification of a Grouplike Carbohydrate in a Type Ii Strain with an Undesignated Group Antigen

Two antigens, the group-specific carbohydrate and the Type II carbohydrate, have been isolated by cellulose column chromatography from a formamide extract of a Group F streptococcus. Chemical and immunologic analyses indicate that both antigens are free of other cellular components. Both antigens are components of the cell wall although the Type II antigen is probably more superficial than the ...

بررسی صحت تشخیص بالینی فارنژیت استرپتوککی در بیماران مراجعه کننده به بیمارستان‌های زنجان

Background and Objective: Streptococcal pharyngitis is one of the most common bacterial infections that its improper treatment could lead to complications such as heart and kidney problems. Although streptococcal pharyngitis makes up a low percentage of pharyngitis etiology, penicillin derivatives are prescribed for many of the patients with pharyngitis. The aim of this study was to determine t...

STUDIES ON BACTERIOPHAGES OF HEMOLYTIC STREPTOCOCCI I. FACTORS INFLUENCING THE INterACTION OF PHAGE AND SUSCEPTmLE

The bacteriophages of ~-hemolytic streptococci studied by Evans (1-4) were classified into several races or types. I t is clear from this early work that the phages demonstrated some degree of specificity for streptococcal groups. For instance, a bacteriophage which lysed almost all group C streptococci did not lyse group A streptococci. However, much of this work was done prior to the serologi...

Studies on the Antigenic Composition of Group a Hemolytic Streptococci

1. In this study a series of experiments showing the antigenic relationship of type 10 and type 12 group A hemolytic streptococci is reported. Agglutinin, precipitin, and passive protection tests with unabsorbed and reciprocally absorbed antisera were employed to show that representative type 10 and 12 strains contain serologically identical M antigens but unrelated type-specific T antigens. 2....
